Are You Too Busy to Travel? 7 Reasons to Get Motivated and Start Travelling

Travelling is an excellent way to experience new cultures and expand your horizons. Avid globetrotter Johnson Nguyen shares these traveling tips and hacks he’s picked up while traveling throughout the globe.

If you are waiting for that perfect time to travel, it will likely never come. There will always be bills to pay, and your bank account may be stretched too thin. Soon, months and years my pass by, and you’ll notice yourself in the same position – waiting for that perfect time to finally take the trip you so deserve after working so hard.

Sometimes, you should just take the leap of faith and follow your heart. Today will always be the perfect day to travel. Expenses will come and go, but time cannot be turned back. You will experience a new world of adventure, which will make your worries about your finances and bills disappear – at least for the moment. There are ways to make money specifically to travel.

Many people feel guilty about taking time out of their lives and away from loved ones and responsibilities to travel. However, there are plenty of reasons why you should make time to travel – and the benefits of travel far outweigh the disadvantages.

Here are my 7 reasons why you should always make time in your life to travel.

Travel Helps Decrease Stress & Anxiety

It can be difficult to rest and relax when you are home, and you often need a change of scenery and a move away from the day to day responsibilities of life in order to fully gain that true sense of relaxation and rest. While the weekends offer some respite from the busyness of our work weeks, it takes more than a weekend away to fully rest and relax while you travel.

Take more than a weekend away to fully gain the benefits of travel. There is a fine line with length of travel as you don’t want to be so exhausted from your vacation that you find it difficult to do your job the next day. Make sure to give yourself a 24-hour buffer between returning home and resuming daily life.

Travel Expands your Horizons

There is so much that the world has to offer, from scenery to a complete change of perspective. Travelling allows us to open our minds, experience new cultures, and appreciate the beautiful world in which we live. Visiting ancient and historical sites can really give us a sense of the past that we may otherwise never have reading a history book.

Travel is Good for your Physical Health

There is no better way to explore a new location than on foot. This really allows you to ‘live like a local’ and explore the nooks and crannies of each place you visit. The best part? It doesn’t even feel like exercise, because you’re fascinated by the beautiful sights, smells and sounds around you. You should always remember to take breaks, wear comfortable shoes and drink lots of water when you travel.

The Memories Last a Lifetime

No matter how many photographs you take or souvenirs you buy, the memories you make while you travel will outlast them all. You will find yourself recounting your favourite travel stories years later, as if they happened yesterday. Travelling can bring families closer together and vacations are a great bonding experience. Many people now choose to travel over giving gifts on holidays, because experiences are something that cannot be forgotten or thrown away when they become less useful.

Travel Helps you Appreciate your Home

Many say it, and it is often true: the best part of travelling is coming home. No matter how great your time away was, coming home at the end of a trip helps you appreciate everything you have – from your comfortable bed, to your favourite foods, and everything in between. Travelling and then returning home is often the best way to discover new things you love about your hometown.

Travel Helps you Make Connections

If you spend enough time immersed in a new location, you’ll soon find that you develop new connections with the locals – or even other visitors to the same area. You may find that these people share your interests or offer entirely new perspectives and may be people you want to continue to know after your travels are over. Travelling is a great way to meet new people – and potentially make life-long connections.

Travel doesn’t have to be expensive – or far

The best thing about travelling is that it can be exactly what you need it to be. It can be short-term, close to home and relatively inexpensive, or it can be as luxurious as you’d like. Travel of any kind is still travel and offers the same benefits of travel no matter how long you’re away or how far you go. Weekends can be used to explore the quaint town close to home you’ve never visited, for example. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to travel. If you want to travel, it can be done.

Final Thoughts on Travel

Travel is possible in the same way you prioritize your time to go to the gym or work on a project. The important thing to remember is that travel is about exploration, learning and wonder – which can happen anywhere. You can take a weekend getaway, or even explore your own city with fresh eyes. Try looking at a visitor’s guide for your own area and exploring it as if you have never been there before. You may be surprised what you’ll find if you go looking for it.

It is so important to make time in your life for travel. Travel allows us to slow down, relax and be more mindful, which has enormous benefits for our mental health. It is a great way to escape the stressors of everyday life, no matter how far you travel.
