5-Ingredient Lemon Bars Are a Classic With a Lil’ Twist

A Big Little Recipe has the smallest-possible ingredient list and big, BIG everything else: flavor, ideas, holy-cow factor. Psst: We don’t count water, salt, pepper, and certain fats (say, olive oil to dress greens or sauté onions), since we’re guessing you have those covered. Today, we’re making almost-classic lemon bars—with your new favorite crust. When I was little I used to ask for lemon bars for my birthday. Not cake, not cupcakes, not pie. Lemon bars. Because our neighbor, who was a wonderful cook and baker, made the lemoniest, tartest, best lemon bars around. They were so good that, whenever we were lucky enough to have them, I’d take the whole plate and stash it away for later, to eat all myself. Read More >> …

Orzo payasam recipe, Orzo pasta recipes

Orzo payasam recipe for New year dessert. Orzo is a type of pasta, shaped like a grain of rice, bit large in size. It is perfect choice for making pasta payasam, blends well in the recipe.Orzo is totally new to me until I saw it during my Swiss trip. I loved the shape and took it immediately as I have never seen it or may be never noticed in Singapore. First thing I thought to try  dishes with orzo was to use in payasam and soups. And I did used it all up in making payasam majorly as both Vj and Aj loved it like anything. Again I bought orzo in Singapore. Though the quality wasn’t same, I am glad it’s available. I should try some other Italian salad or something. If you could get Orzo in your place, do try making payasam, it turns out really well. One thing I follow while making pasta payasam is,…

A Cheesy Brazilian Black-Eyed Pea Dish for Luck in the New Year

My mother, who grew up in East Texas (which she would argue is technically the South), introduced me to the Southern tradition of eating black-eyed peas to ring in the new year. This tradition allegedly came from West Africa, where black-eyed peas are said to have originated. The distinctive black dot where the pale pea curves is reminiscent of cowry shells, which were once used as currency in West Africa. As such, black-eyed peas have come to symbolize wealth, which is how it became a New Year’s Day staple for many Southerners. I remember going on a New Year’s Eve Caribbean cruise once and meeting a couple of passengers from Tennessee. They were discussing what they would do if the chef had the audacity to let Jan. 1 arrive without serving black-eyed peas. In the end, they were able to find a can of “congo peas” while we were docked in St. Kitts. I still have…

The One Ingredient That Will Punch Up Your Holiday Bar

Welcome to Nifty, Gifty Holidays, our guide for all the little, magical ways we make the season sparkle. Today, we’re getting ready to ring in the New Year with a simple but special cocktail. If you’re like me, you prefer to stay in on New Year’s Eve. In New York City especially, pricey restaurant menus and crowded bars are far less appealing than house parties or cozy get-togethers at home. But not going out can sometimes feel not really special. Over the years, I’ve landed on a few reliable ways to make any casual gathering (even just for two) still feel fun and celebratory. Really good snacks is one way—think deviled eggs, pigs in blankets, cheesy dips—but you probably could’ve guessed that. Games is another (a few faves: Catch Phrase, Joking Hazard, Codenames, Five Crowns, and charades, of course.) And a fancy drink is the last. Wine, beer, and straight liquor are solid bar standbys,…

How a Japanese Comic Book Created a New Sandwich Craze おにぎらず

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC1-WaB2dwU
On the season finale of the sandwich series I’m headed out on a journey to explore a sandwich that has recently been gaining popularity in Japan decades after it original creation in a 1990’s Japanese comic book. I’ll head out to 969 NYC Coffee in Jackson Heights to talk to a Japanese Chef who has been mastering the craft of the Onigiriazu. Back in the kitchen studio, I’ve teamed up with GT’s to give you a quick beginners guide to drinking kombucha as well as show you how to make some Japanese style pickles by taking advantage of the acidic qualities and health benefits of kombucha. Then I’ll show you a great way to create vegan style “crispy nuggets” to create the perfect filling for my homemade Onigirazu. @GTskombucha Special thanks to Oda at 369 NYC Coffee and my Cousin Bari for providing me manga and anime knowledge. Carla Makes a Salted Caramel-Chocolate Tart | From the Test Kitchen | Bon Appétit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoTrH4gHyaw
Join Carla in the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen as she makes a salted caramel-chocolate tart! You can use a 9" or 10" tart pan, but the layers will be thinner in the larger pan. We also found that Morton kosher salt won’t dissolve completely in the caramel filling, so use Diamond Crystal for the best results for this tart recipe. Then, a generous sprinkling of flaky sea salt before serving brings out the flavor of the chocolate and tempers the sweetness of the caramel. The Fudgiest Chocolate Cake Needs Just 5 Ingredients & 20 Minutes

Kladdkaka—or Swedish Gooey Chocolate Cake—is a home cook’s dream. It’s five ingredients, plus a pinch of salt and some breadcrumbs to line the pan (which, in a bind, you could skip in lieu of just butter). The cake batter comes together in just one pot in roughly five minutes, or as long as it takes you to melt chocolate and butter, then stir in some dry ingredients. It cooks for about 15 minutes meaning, all-in, you’re never more than a half-an-hour out from a warm, fudgy slice of it. And according to Michelin star-winning chef Magnus Nilsson, who estimates that he eats kladdkaka roughly once a month, it always turns out way better at home than it would in a professional kitchen. Veg cutlets, restaurant style veg cutlet recipe

Veg cutlet restaurant style recipe with step by step pictures, Learn how to prepare restaurant style veg cutlet with  potato, carrot, peas and beetroot.I always wanted to try veg cutlet with onion and ginger garlic paste as the one I usually make is no onion no garlic veg cutlet recipe. I have tasted in restaurant couple of times and recently in a get together. It was super flavourful and delicious and just restaurant style melt in mouth. When we asked Deeps, she told she deep fried in coconut oil. Also the kitchen king masala does the magic.  So I wanted to try it out with onion and ginger garlic paste as well as kitchen king masala, I did not try coconut oil as I had no stock enough for deep frying. Do try if you have (virgin)coconut oil.As the year coming to end and my new kitchen is almost ready, I am really looking forward for…

Champagne Pasta Is Exactly How We’re Spending Our New Year’s Eve

It only took a few years of going out with friends to an expensive, crowded bar in New York City, waiting for the moment to scream “5-4-3-2-1,” to convince me that I’d much rather stay in for New Year’s Eve. It’s less expensive, and involves a lot less planning. But even if I’m staying in, the last few moments of the year deserve celebration, too. This year, I’m planning on welcoming 2019 with something that makes me feel happy—a big bowl of creamy pasta. And of course some champagne.
