Poondu murukku, garlic murukku recipe, mini murukku

Poondu murukku, garlic murukku is a flavourful twist to the regular murukku you prepare. I have made this as tiny mini murukku. It turns out flavourful, super crispy.Whenever my in-laws visit kumbakonam, they make sure to buy sweets and snacks apart from coffee powder and other stuffs. Though we too make a short stay at Kumbakonam every year when we make our yearly temple visit, somehow it will be hectic and my father in law alone goes and grabs few sweets and snacks last minute. My mom in law says they usually buy a garlic murukku that is so flavourful and it is sold only in a particular shop. Mama buys similar murukku, which is plain flavour and white in colour. I could clearly feel it is just rice flour murukku. But as mami and co-sis raves about the garlic murukku I get tempted a lot. This time, when Vj went for an official trip to India,…

Carnival Cookies

Carnival Cookies are an amped up version of a soft sprinkle cookie loaded with Circus Animal Cookies, sprinkles and white chips! The sprinkle cookies recipe is soft, buttery, thick and guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

The Easy, Cheesy Casserole That’s Always on My Sunday Dinner Table

We’re partnering with Lagostina to celebrate the Italian Sunday dinner with stories, recipes, and videos about this special family tradition. Here, Tuscan food writer and photographer Giulia Scarpaleggia shares her mom’s potato gateau recipe, a Sunday dinner favorite. Try as I might, Sunday afternoons are often the only moment when I can enjoy a walk along my favorite country road, under the enormous Tuscan oak trees I’ve known since I was a child. I relish these moments—a brisk walk in the crisp fall air always leaves me with reddened cheeks and a good appetite—but I love lazy Sunday afternoons indoors, too. I could spend hours on the sofa dreaming over a new cookbook, adding bookmarks to every recipe I want to try, or watching the last episode of my favorite TV series. For as much as I enjoy cooking and having friends over for dinner, Sunday afternoons are not meant for spending hours in the kitchen…

How the Community is Standing Behind 175 Displaced Food Businesses

When Brooklyn-based food incubator Pilotworks closed abruptly last weekend, 175 small businesses were displaced. According to GrubStreet, Pilotworks sent an email to announce it would be shuttering “after failing to raise the necessary capital to continue operations,” and gave members limited access to collect possessions over the following few days. For businesses like Dominga, a cafe collaboration between chefs Lani Halliday of Brutus Bakeshop and Woldy Reyes of food service company Woldy Kusina, slated to launch in 2019, the sudden closure was detrimental to normal-course business. While a neighboring commercial kitchen has welcomed Halliday and Reyes, Dominga had to leave behind critical supplies. Read More >> …

10 Magically Easy Halloween Dinners to Make Before Trick-or-Tricking

Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, which is basically a crime to kids and kids-at-heart who look forward to that one night to dress up and go trick-or-treating after work school. I’ve always made the same mistake every year—both as an adult and as a kid—of not eating anything substantial before the night of debauchery. This can catch up to you pretty quickly. So, it helps to have a reliable savory recipe or two on hand—a Tupperware of warm and cozy stew, or some crispy chicken thighs with white rice, a grilled cheesy sandwich maybe—protein and carbs, essentially, to ensure that you’re fully fueled for the night ahead. 14 Naturally Sweetened Desserts You’d Swear Came Straight From the Bakery

As a long-time dessert fanatic, I never dreamed I’d see the day when I fell in love with alt-sweeteners. Granulated sugar has long been the backbone of my many baking projects, and classics are classics for a reason, I thought. I can’t pinpoint exactly when I started dabbling with the other stuff—like maple syrup, honey, dates, agave nectar, coconut sugar, and fruit juice—but I think it happened across a series of incidents where I found myself temporarily out of white sugar (blame my crazed macaron phase), and just had to have dessert right that very minute. And I didn’t hate it. In fact, with some of these experimental combinations, I actually preferred the flavors natural sweeteners lent the final product. When I spoke with James Beard award-winning pastry chef Joanne Chang for a piece about the best natural sweetener for baking, she gave me the lowdown: Read More >> …
