Welcoming Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki to the Necker Cup

Welcoming Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki to the Necker Cup

I like to play tennis…. well, that might be an understatement! I love the sport and once dreamed of playing at Wimbledon. Although my life took a different path, I do take my tennis quite seriously. When on Necker, I start most of my days picking up a racquet, playing twice a day in the morning and evening. It certainly helps me get focused for the day ahead, being present to the sound of the lemurs and the sight of flamingos flying overhead.

This November 24-29th, the 2018 Manuka Doctor Necker Cup & Necker Open presented by Metal will return to Necker Island. Along with me, the organisers Premier Live and Mehow are very excited to bring these wonderful events back to their home and look forward to sharing the progress of the British Virgin Island’s rebuilding efforts and raising more funds with our friends and fellow tennis enthusiasts.

I enjoy watching tennis as well, taking mental notes from the greats and incorporating their tips into my own game. The coveted Necker Cup Trophy has eluded me for the past six years, and I am hoping 2018 is my year. I was so close in 2017, falling at the last hurdle as the delightful Tommy Haas and Maryanne Mckenzie won the final.

If you were wondering who might be joining us this year…the legendary Serena Williams is coming out for her inaugural Necker Cup experience. She is one of the best athletes of all time and we all have so much admiration for her. She has had an incredible year with the addition of her beautiful baby girl, her marriage and her return to tennis – we’re looking forward to celebrating these milestones with her in November.

In the spirit of amazing athletes, I can’t wait to welcome Caroline Wozniacki back to Necker for her second year. She joined us in 2016 and was so much fun. Caroline has been playing some brilliant tennis, won the Australian Open and is currently ranked two in the world. As Wimbledon gets started, I will be watching each of these athletes compete for my favourite grand slam. Good luck to you both and come November, maybe you can help me with my title quest!

If golf is more your sport, this year the Necker Open has exclusive access to a private nine-hole course on neighbouring island, Nail Bay. The Necker Open runs alongside the Necker Cup and will also showcase the unique Necker 9 skills challenges, as well as the Manuka Doctor Million Dollar Hole-in-One challenge.

Keep visiting the Necker Cup & Necker Open Facebook Pages for updates as well as videos that give a glimpse into the fun we have had over the years. In the meantime, I will be focusing on my game and keeping my eye on the Necker Cup Trophy!
